Portugal, lisbon

Portugal is a western European country, its capital is Lisbon and is the largest city. It is located in the west of the country, on the Atlantic Ocean coast where the river Tagus flows into the Atlantic Ocean.

Lisbon is characterized by numerous entertainment and cultural venues, some of the most important:

Lisbon Cathedral, built after 1147 over the remnants of the mosque of the Islamic period.

Belém Tower is a fortified tower located in the Belém district of Lisbon, Portugal. It is an UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Here are my sister and me at the Jeronimos Monastery in the evening. This monastery was classified by the UNESCO, with nearby Belém Tower, as a World Heritage Site.

Across from the Jerónimos Monastery, reached via an underpass by its gardens, is the Discoveries Monument, built on the north bank of the Tagus River in 1960 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the death of Prince Henry the Navigator.

Lisbon has many means of transports to get around the city. For example: cab, bus and the most important underground and tram.

A traditional form of public transport in Lisbon is the tram. Originally introduced in the 19th century, the trams were originally imported from the U.S. and called americanos.
